IMMERSE: Center for Immersive Computing Workshop
May 15, 2023
IMMERSE will host a faculty and staff workshop on May 15, 2023 to help shape IMMERSE, the Center for Immersive Computing, which was recently funded by the University of Illinois Investment for Growth Program.
Immersive computing promises the seamless integration of the physical and the virtual, with a transformative impact on most human activities, including education, healthcare, industrial design, science, arts, and more. IMMERSE aims to bring together research, education, and infrastructure activities on our campus, covering immersive applications, technologies, and human factors. It includes work on augmented, virtual, and mixed reality (AR/VR/MR), collectively extended reality or XR, metaverse, digital twins, spatial computing, earable computing, etc.
IMMERSE aims to propel our campus to a world leadership position in interdisciplinary research, education/workforce development, and research and education infrastructure for the emerging immersive era of computing. The workshop agenda aims to bring together the relevant campus community, identify and enable key stakeholders to influence the long-term directions for IMMERSE, develop a vision document, and catalyze new research, education, and infrastructure activities. We plan an external facing launch event for IMMERSE for the Fall.
To attend the workshop, please register here by May 1. To be considered for a presentation/demo at the workshop, please submit a brief abstract along with the registration. If you cannot attend the workshop but would like to be involved in future activities, please submit this brief form. You are also welcome to invite for registration your experienced graduate students who can contribute to the discussion.
